Family Fun

This has been a really busy week. First, a couple of ramblings.

I've noticed that this blog has really given me practice in the area of capitals and punctuation. Seriously, I've gone through too many years of schooling, and I think that alone should exempt me from having to capitalize or punctuate anything ever again! But for my blog, I will.

My cousin Jenny is still in town. She's a real character, and loves the camera. Naturally her and I get along great because I like to take pictures! Here are some of her that I got a few days ago!

At the Irvine Spectrum...

For some reason everyone in my family is fond of crawfish. Personally, I just think it looks gross, and here's my proof of that! See? Gross.

and here's Jenny enjoying every minute of it. Ewww...

For those of you wondering whether my family will disown me for posting pictures of them like these, rest assured, I forewarn everyone in my presence that I am with camera, and will not hesitate to use it! :o)

Website

There are far too many things going on to cover them all in this post, but here's a recap:

- My website is proving a little easier to put together than I had anticipated. That is a good thing! I have hours of reading ahead of me in order to finish everything up and create my galleries.

- My cousin got married this past weekend. It was good to see family that I haven't seen in a while! I'm really glad I brought my camera with me everywhere, it has certainly paid off (in memories)! Here are some of my favorites from the wedding.

The traditional ceremony...

The western ceremony...

The lovely centerpieces, which I won, but forgot to take home :o(

The first dance...

And of course the cake I wish I got to eat! :o)

New Hobby

Anyone who knows me knows that I am notorious for my hobbies. I guess you could say that I'm a Do-It-Yourselfer to the extreme. Basically, the general rule of thumb here is that if I can figure out a way to make it, or do it myself, I probably will. SOOOO here is my new hobby! Actually, this is more than just a hobby, it's actually a necessity. I've been wanting to get a portfolio website up for a few months now and I missed my last deadline for having my website go live. One of the issues with this was that I didn't want a cookie cutter website, and since I've got that DIY blood running through my veins, I figured what's a better way to shoot two birds with one stone than learning html and css, and maybe a little flash and build my own website MYSELF?! This can prove to be a valuable skill, and I love learning new things, so you can see where to me, this just seemed like the logical choice :o)

I picked up three books from Amazon.com today. I can't wait for them to get here!!! :o)

Fun in the Sun!

One of my coworkers asked me to photograph her son's 4th birthday party. One of the areas I'm working on right now is nailing exposure in bright outdoor harsh light. Here are some of my favorites! The theme was Spongebob Square Pants! You can see more on my flickr stream :o)

These kids are TOO cute!

I just love the "fun" factor in this shot!

Fun with my new camera :o)

I took my 5d out for a spin, and wound up getting some silly shots of my friends as well as some shots I apparently was not allowed to take inside a popular home decor store. I was very, very sneaky ;o)

New Addition to the Family

So a no sales tax event landed me a 5d! I love it, and here are some of my first shots with it. Some of my images were too big, so I'll have to remember to resize them for the size of this blog.

Puppy Love

Okay, so they're not exactly puppies, but I had the opportunity to photograph one of my friends with her two dogs, Chico and Sophie. I must say that these dogs were really easy to work with once they calmed down a little! Here are some of my favorite shots!

Recap

Well, now that I can post big pretty pictures, it's time to recap and catch up!

Remember those invites I was going to send out for the Sex & the City movie soiree? Well, I never sent those out. Instead, I used invites from evite.com to send invites out. It was a lot quicker and very "go green" of me ;o) Here is a picture from the night.

I think our cosmos came out pretty good!

Take Two

Well, that did not work. Let's see if this does!

Four down, & SOOO many more to go!

After a very LONG night, and every now and then, a little hiccup with the sewing machine, I finally did it. I made my own covers! I'm so friggin' proud of myself!!! Remember when you used to ask your teachers, "When are we ever gonna use this?" Well, if I ever asked that in my sewing class in 7th grade (many many moons ago), someone needed to slap me silly because I sure as heck used my skills last night (and today)!!! Without further ado...here they are :o) *takes a bow*

DIY day!

So today I decide I'm going to be a little thrifty. Instead of buying some covers for my shootsac (a camera lens bag for those of you who aren't familiar), I decide I'm gonna MAKE them :o) That's right, I'm gonna whip out my sewing kit and make it happen. Let's hope I still have all ten fingers by the end of the week! After careful deliberation at the Joanne's Fabric store, I decide on these final five. From left to right: plaid (for when I want to be preppy), blue chenille jacquard (for when I want to be fancy), green-gold-red fuzzy stripes (for when I'm feelin' crazy), red paisely (for when I'm feelin' dressy), and denim floral (for when I'm feelin' funky).

Speaking of DIY, I usually make my own invites. BUT I'm a little busy right now (making covers for my bag of course), so I think I'm going to mail out these cute invites for a VERY highly anticipated "Sex and the City" movie premiere. May 30th! YAY! I'm a die-hard SATC fan. OH! I know! I'll post some pics from the SATC tour I went on when I was in NYC last year! Note to self... :o)

Don't shoot your eye out!

Today I decided to change the cover of my shootsac, and while trying to pull off the cover (which is attached with velcro), it flew out and hit me in the eye. IN the eye! If that's what a little accident like this feels like, I'd hate to imagine what it feels like to get punched in the eye! :o(

It has been tough going back to work. I'm still not used to having this regular schedule again. To keep me alive, I have been using this. (See photo below.) If I could, I'd walk around with an IV of coffee hooked to me.

In other news, my little car is due for a cleaning. I couldn't resist getting this shot :o) Ok, tomorrow I promise I will share real pictures!

Oops!

Ok, so I need to read the details on how to work this blog hahaha...

Welcome to my blog!

Hello, and welcome to my new photo blog! My name is Soupy and I created this blog to document my adventures in photography. This is a hobby that I truly enjoy and would like to turn it into something more than just a hobby one day. So join me on this little adventure, and who knows? Maybe one day, I can look back and say, "Wow, I've come a long way!"...or maybe not. But for now, let's be optimistic! :o)

To start this blog off, I will celebrate with a picture I took today! I'll share more tomorrow as it's getting late!
